Legend Global Search
As we weather through 2008, there is no denying
times are tough. My hope is that if you are reading this newsletter, your
job is safe. Either way, it is important to remain forward looking and
focused on the world you can embrace - particularly, the job and the
workplace.
As business professionals in tough times, each of us
needs to be expert at what we do. We need to conduct our business
consistent with best practices and industry standards, as it is these
principles that ensure longevity in business and allows for a good night’s
sleep.
We need to focus on the fundamentals that make our
organizations strong - its people and its goals. We need to project
enthusiasm and confidence, not doom and gloom of the sort that sells
newspapers, unless of course, you are in the newspaper business.
Each of us needs to be willing to adapt to changes in
business consistent with the changing landscape in our businesses. We need
to be thinking strategically as to how to add value and adjust accordingly.
Fine tuning who we are professionally is critical to continued success in
the workplace, and the risk to those who do not adjust could be
devastating. Those who do not change will be left behind in the wake of
those willing to adapt.
People respond to positive energy. Have something
uplifting to say. Share good news. Smile. Laugh. Inspire. Positive energy
rebounds and lays the foundation for success. Seek out opportunities: as
always, there are many, even when the unexpected happens.
I leave you this month with a thought by management
thinker, Warren Bennis, “Managers are people who do things right, leaders
are people who do the right thing.”
Be well. Be happy. Stay positive.
